As part of last week's national Cycle to Work Day we, along with many other businesses, encouraged colleagues to take to two wheels and cycle to work for at least one day.
Around 28% of Dixon Chew staff currently commute to work by bike at least three times a week. Collectively they ride almost 12,000 miles (19,300 kilometres) a year. Not using a car for those journeys means an annual saving of 3.57 tonnes of CO2
With nearly a quarter of the UK’s CO2 emissions now coming from road transport it’s no surprise that leaving your car at home is going to help pollution both locally and globally.
The benefits to individuals and employers of cycling to work are well documented. It not only saves money but it builds physical activity into our daily lives, helping us avoid heart disease, certain types of cancer, type 2 diabetes and obesity. It’s also good for our mental wellbeing.
Ride bikes, have fun, stay awesome!
